Does My Insurance Plan Cover Me For COVID-19?

Our plans offer your coverage against COVID-19.

Here's a summary of our plans. See how you are protected but do note that the summary is not exhaustive. Please refer to your policy contract for the precise terms, conditions and exclusions. Reach out to your Income advisor or contact us for assistance.

Will my health insurance cover me for COVID-19?

Income Plan COVID-19 Coverage^
IncomeShield and IncomeShield Riders 

Examples:
Covers under hospitalisation benefits (where applicable for the plans/riders).

Note: 
  • Not covered for quarantine in hospital if it is not medically necessary. 
  • Daily Cash Rider (up to a maximum of 14 days) is payable if insured is transferred to a Community Care Facility (CCF) / Community Recovery Facility (CRF) in Singapore for medically necessary treatment, and provided the insured was first admitted to a hospital for COVID-19 before being transferred.


Integrated Shield Plan claims for COVID-19:As our borders progressively reopen to permit international travel, MOH is allowing Singapore Citizens and PRs who travel out of Singapore to claim for inpatient COVID-19 treatment from MediShield Life and Integrated Shield Plans on or after 20 Oct 2020, should they experience onset of COVID-19 symptoms within 14 days of their return to Singapore. 

ElderShield and Supplements.

Examples:
Covers under severe disability benefits (where applicable for the plans/riders).
Hospital Care Insurance
 
Covers daily cash payout for hospitalisation and ICU stay and reimbursements for Day surgery and Ambulance expenses. 

Note: 
  • Not covered for quarantine in hospital if it is not medically necessary.
  • Exclusion on pre-existing conditions will apply to COVID-19.
  • Daily hospital cash payout (up to a maximum of 14 days) is payable if insured is transferred to a Community Care Facility (CCF) / Community Recovery Facility (CRF) in Singapore for medically necessary treatment, and provided the insured was first admitted to a hospital for COVID-19 before being transferred.
  • A 30 days waiting period applies for sickness, including COVID-19.

Will my life insurance cover me for COVID-19?

Whole & term life insurance plans, savings plans and investment-linked plans

Covers death, terminal illness (TI) and total and permanent disability benefits (where applicable for the plans/riders). 

 

Will my critical illness insurance cover me for COVID-19?

Covers under Major Impact Benefit if required to stay in ICU for total 5 days or more in one hospital admission as a result of surgery or infection due to COVID-19.
Dread diseases and cancer related plans/riders.

Examples:
  • Cancer Protect
  • Silver Protect
  • Silver Secure
  • Early Assure Accelerator rider 
  • Essential Protect rider
  • Total Protect rider 
  • Dread Diseases cover (as in some investment-linked plans)
Not covered under dread diseases and cancer benefits.

However, there may be cover under dread diseases for complications of COVID-19 under end stage lung disease provided the diagnosis meets the definitions and criteria in the policy contract.

 

 

Will my personal accident insurance cover me for COVID-19?

Income Plan COVID-19 Coverage^
PA Assurance (with Infectious Disease Cover add-on)

i50 insurance
Covers the following due to COVID-19 only:
  • Accidental death whilst in Singapore
  • Daily hospital income ($100 per day for up to 30 days) for hospitalisation in Singapore

Note:
  • The above are complimentary short-term benefit extensions offered to current insureds.
  • The 14 days waiting period for infectious disease will be waived for COVID-19 until further notice.
  • Pre-existing condition exclusion for COVID-19 will still apply to COVID-19 contracted before 17 Feb 2020 or before the policyholder takes up a new PA Assurance policy with the infectious disease cover, whichever is later.
  • The insured person has to contract, be diagnosed with and hospitalised in Singapore due to COVID-19 for the benefits to be applicable. We will deem COVID-19 to have been contracted overseas if the insured person travelled overseas within 30 days of the date of diagnosis.
  • Daily hospital income for infectious disease cover payout (up to a maximum of 14 days) is payable if insured is transferred to a Community Care Facility (CCF) / Community Recovery Facility (CRF) in Singapore for medically necessary treatment, and provided the insured was first admitted to a hospital for COVID-19 before being transferred. 
  • The benefit extensions are valid until 31 Dec 2020.

Will my travel insurance cover me for COVID-19?

Income Plan COVID-19 Coverage^
Travel Insurance COVID-19 is considered a known event from 9am on 4 March 2020. Thus, for all policies purchased after 9am on 4 Mar 2020 to anywhere in the world, there will be no coverage for any claims arising from COVID-19.

Overseas Student Protection Plan There will be no coverage for any claims arising from COVID-19 for travel from 18 March 2020, including medical expenses, medical evacuation and repatriation. 

However, you will still continue to be covered for claims resulting from other causes, e.g. accidents or other illnesses (if optional benefits are taken up).

If the trip is cancelled prior to the start of your policy, you can choose to cancel your policies and request for a full premium refund.

Will my domestic helper be covered by insurance for COVID-19?

Income Plan COVID-19 Coverage^
Domestic Helper Insurance Covers under: 
  • Section 4 – Special grant due to death
  • Section 5 - Expenses if you have to stop employing your domestic helper (reimbursement of expenses incurred by employer)
  • Section 6 – Wages compensation (cash benefit of domestic helpers’ wages paid to employer for the period domestic helper is hospitalized and are not able to work)
  • Section 7 – Hospital and surgical expenses
  • Section 8 – Sending your domestic helper home

Note:
  • Exclusion on communicable diseases will be waived for COVID-19 until further notice.
