What to do when a death occurs?

Step 1

A. If the death occurs in a hospital.

  • Seek direction from ward matron / nurse.
  • Secure the Certificate of Cause of Death.

B. If the death occurs at home.

  • Call family doctor / Police where applicable.
  • Secure the Certificate of Cause of Death.

Step 2

  • Engage a Funeral Director

Step 3

Register the death at:

  • Any Police Post (NPP), or
  • The Registry of Births & Deaths

Things to bring to register a Death:

  • Certificate of Cause of Death
  • Identification papers of deceased and informant. eg. NRIC / Passport / Certificate of Registration of Birth / FIN card
