Income Charity Shield 2007
All Hail the Champions of Income Football!
Income Football Team Triumphs in the 1st ever Income Charity Shield
You came, you cheered, they sweated.
The eagerly anticipated Income Charity Shield match between the Income Football Team and the Rest of Income team went full steam ahead on Sunday (11th Feb) at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Not even the swealtering Singapore sun could stop the Income Football Team in their tracks as David Tan and team bulldozed their way to a 3 - 0 victory over their hardworking but outclassed opponents.
The 3 goalscorers on the day were former-national player Amin Nasir, Mohd Ferhan and Jai.
Among the other highlights, girl power nearly bore fruit for the Income Football Team as striker Phyllis Koh rose above the Rest of Income team keeper and headed the ball past everyone - only to see it cleared off the line at the last possible moment.
The Rest of Income team though, were certainly not without their chances, with their striker Rick in top form, making like Theo Walcott and bursting past the Income Football Team defence twice in the dying moments of the 2nd half, only to see his first shot ricochet off the inside of the post and his 2nd one saved by a heroic dive by his opponents' keeper.
Charity was the name of the game on Sunday as the 2 teams generously donated $420 to the Moral Home for Disabled. Additionally, a few of our General Managers and CEO-designate, Mr Tan Suee Chieh gamefully took to the field as goalkeepers during the half-time break, attempting to stop eager participants' penalty kicks. The only catch? - A $5 to $10 donation to the Morale Home for Disabled must be pledged before every kick.
In the end, $763 was raised for Charity through donations, games and 'betting'.
The 1st ever Income Charity Shield may not have been played by the Singapore Lions, but the 2 teams on display showed the same Lion-hearted grit, courage and determination that the Lions displayed in Thailand.
The same spirit that makes football the most loved sport in Singapore.
