Document Date: 3-March-1999

Sally (not her real name) was only 26 years old when she was pregnant with her 3rd child and was diagnosed with asthma. Although the doctor had assured her that her asthmatic condition is very mild, Sally felt very weak and vulnerable, and she hates to think what will happen to her 3 young children if she should suddenly develop a serious condition and hence will not be able to support her children, both financially and emotionally.

This was the time when she thought seriously about life insurance. When she heard about Income's Living Policy which covers many of the common dread diseases; she immediately called up the office and was assigned a sales representative. After much explanation on the product, Sally was convinced this was the policy for her and she thus took up a Living policy for a sum assured of $100,000 in 1993. With this coverage in place, Sally felt relieved and could now fully concentrate on bringing up her children.

Sally's decision on taking up this policy proved to be so right, for 5 years after she bought the policy, on a fateful day in September 1998, she suddenly lost consciousness and was sent to the hospital and diagnosed to have a mild stroke.

Fortunately for Sally, as she was still very young (only 31); she was able to make a complete recovery within a short period of 4 months. Her sales representative helped her to make a claim on her Living policy. As she has completely recovered and there was no permanent neurological deficit that has resulted from her mild stroke, her condition is thus not covered under her plan.

However, instead of turning her away and giving a big "NO" to Sally, Income understands that she has had a traumatic experience and that she has also incurred high medical costs during hospitalisations and now physiotherapy treatments. Income, thus, lends a helping hand and is prepared to advance $30,000 against her policy value at no interest charge, to help her tide over this difficult period. More importantly, Income will be reviewing her condition in the near future and is also prepared to assist further if the need arises.

Sally, although disappointed that her claim is denied, fully understands the reasons behind the decision. She is indeed very grateful to Income for showing that it cares for its policyholders in times of need. The $30,000 will indeed go a long way in disbursing the medical expenses. Sally can now carry on her usual activities knowing that Income will always be there for her if she needs help.
