Mdm L bought a Living policy for sum assured of $20,000 with INCOME in
late May 1997. She was diagnosed to be suffering from Stage 3 ovarian
cancer in August 1997 after a routine medical examination.
The dread disease claim was not payable as the diagnosis falls within the
3 months' waiting period for cancer diagnosis. (This condition applies to
the whole insurance industry.)
Her family appealed to our life claims manager for assistance as they
faced financial difficulties in meeting the expensive and long term
treatments. Our representative also appealed on her client's behalf.
As this is an early claim, there is the possibility of non-disclosure of
a pre-existing condition. Based on the facts gathered, we decided to
give our policyholder the benefit of the doubt and an amount of $10,000
was advanced to her to help tide over this difficult period.
Mdm L and her family were appreciative of the care and concern shown by us.
