A company, set up in late 1995 to provide local mail services, purchased a business insurance policy from NTUC Income.
In January 1996, one of their despatch riders met with a road accident and was badly injured. The initial hospital bill alone came up to more than $10,000.00. Being a new set-up, the insured found difficulty in coming up with the money upfront. As their business package included workmen's compensation coverage, they requested that we consider making an interim payment for the hospital bill to alleviate their cashflow problem. We made an initial assessment of the claim based on available
information and sent the insured a cheque for the bill.
The insured was grateful that we were flexible and had helped them with the bill although treatment for the injured worker had not yet been completed.
