Overseas Study Protection Plan

You can verify with the foreign institution or relevant authority to determine if this plan meets their requirement as healthcare requirements vary for different institutions or countries.

Yes. We understand that as students, you may travel for leisure; therefore we have designed our main plan, Trip Protect rider, and Overseas Medical Expenses rider, to provide you with worldwide coverage when you are overseas.

However, please note that we exclude travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, Liberia, Sudan and Syria.

You can add the Trip Protect rider to your policy to protect you during your leisure trip from theft or damage of personal belongings, unused entertainment ticket, trip disruption, and more. For more information, please view section under ‘Trip Protect rider’.

Leisure activities that are accessible to the general public/tourists such as bungee jumping, scuba diving, motorcycling (including pillion riding), horse riding, winter sports, water rafting are covered in our standard policy terms.

However, dangerous or professional sports and activities are not covered in our policy terms. You may contact us at 6788 6616 or email to us at csquery@income.com.sg if you wish to check if the activity you are taking part in is covered.

Accidental death and permanent disability protects you against accidental death or permanent disabilities due to accidents. In such events, we will pay out according to the scale of compensation to lighten the financial load on you or your family.

This policy is designed to protect you against accidents while you are overseas. However, the accidental death and permanent disability cover will start when you leave the place you usually live in Singapore to start your travel, or three hours before the start date of your policy, whichever is later.

Accidental death and permanent disability cover ends when:

a. you arrive at the place that you usually live in Singapore after your travel;

b. three hours after you return to Singapore; or

c. three hours after the end of the period shown on your schedule;

whichever is earlier.

If you suffer an injury due to an accident while overseas, we will pay for the reasonable and necessary inpatient and outpatient medical treatment requested by a medical practitioner for you to be treated immediately while overseas, up to 90 days from the date of the first treatment or up to the benefit limit, whichever comes first.

Yes. If you were unable to complete treatment overseas for the injury suffered while overseas and need to receive inpatient or outpatient medical treatment in Singapore, you must do so within seven days of your return to Singapore.

We will pay for your medical expenses up to 90 days from the date of the first treatment overseas, or 30 days from the first treatment in Singapore, whichever is earlier.

If you suffer a sickness while overseas, we will pay for the reasonable and necessary outpatient medical treatment requested by a medical practitioner for you to be treated immediately while overseas, up to 90 days from the date of the first treatment or up to the benefit limit, whichever comes first.

There is an excess of $100 (amount that you are responsible to pay for) for each outpatient treatment visit.

Yes. If you were unable to complete treatment overseas for the sickness suffered while overseas and need to receive outpatient medical treatment in Singapore, you must do so within seven days of your return to Singapore.

We will pay for your outpatient medical expenses up to 90 days from the date of the first treatment overseas, or 30 days from the first treatment in Singapore, whichever is earlier.

There is an excess of $100 (amount that you are responsible to pay for) for each outpatient treatment visit.

No, either Income or our appointed assistance company will arrange and decide on the most suitable means of evacuation. This may include air ambulance, surface ambulance, regular air transportation, and any other appropriate method to move you to the medical facility for treatment. Please be assured that our decisions will be solely based on the medical necessity and the severity of your medical condition.

This covers the costs incurred for the transportation and return of your mortal remains to Singapore or to your home country. This benefit is only payable if you die due to an injury or a sickness whilst overseas.

This covers you when the public transport you are scheduled to travel on, between Singapore and the city of your overseas residence, or while you are on a leisure trip, is delayed for more than six hours in a row. You must not be the cause of this delay.

For travel delay of more than six hours in a row, we will pay you a cash benefit of $50 for every full six consecutive hours of delay. For example, if you have experienced a consecutive delay of 13 hours that is not due to your fault, we will pay you a cash benefit of $100.

If you are travelling between Singapore and the city of your overseas residence, or on your leisure trip, you can make a claim to repair or replace your lost or damaged checked-in baggage if they are checked-in with a public transport provider which you are scheduled to travel with. You must not be the cause of the loss or damage.

The sub-limit for each item, set, or pair, is $500, subject to an overall section limit in the table of cover according to your plan.

If your personal home contents (for example, laptop, passport, or travel documents) are lost or damaged due to natural disasters, fire or theft while stored at your overseas residence, we will pay you to repair or replace the lost or damaged items.

The “Loss or damage of overseas personal home contents due to natural disaster, fire or theft” benefit under the main plan covers you, if your passport or travel documents that are stored at your overseas residence gets lost or damaged due to natural disasters or theft.

If you would like cover for losing your passport or travel documents while on a leisure trip, you would have to opt for the Trip Protect rider which contains the “Losing travel documents benefit”. 

Under both benefits, we will pay for:

a. The reasonable transport and accommodation expenses that you incurred when travelling to replace your lost passport or travel documents; and

b. The administrative cost to replace your lost passport or travel documents.

This benefit covers you if your overseas residence becomes unsuitable for living as a result of loss or damage caused by fire or natural disaster. You can claim for the reasonable hotel accommodation expenses of a standard room when you stay in a hotel in the city of your overseas residence while your overseas residence is undergoing repair or reinstatement.

This rider expands the overseas medical expenses coverage in the main plan and includes additional cover for inpatient medical expenses incurred due to sickness.

If you suffer an injury or sickness while overseas, we will pay for the reasonable and necessary medical treatment requested by a medical practitioner for you to be treated immediately while overseas, up to 90 days from the date of the first treatment or benefit limit, whichever comes first.

Yes, only if you have purchased the Overseas Medical Expenses rider. We will pay for your inpatient treatment that is recommended by a medical practitioner up to sub-limits and limits in the table of cover according to your plan.

Trip Protect rider covers you while you are on your leisure trip for the following additional benefits:

a) Theft or damage of personal belongings

b) Losing travel documents

c) Rental vehicle excess

d) Cancelling your trip

e) Trip disruption

f) Unused entertainment ticket

g) Missed connections

h) Overbooked public transport

Only leisure trips that start after the Trip Protect rider has been included in your policy will be covered under the Trip Protect rider.

No, removal of optional benefits during the period of insurance is not allowed. The Trip Protect rider is priced competitively to automatically cover any leisure trips you take after activation, giving you peace of mind and not having to worry about remembering to activate travel insurance when you take another leisure trip.

Leisure trip means a journey taken during the period of insurance:

a. to another country from your overseas residence, Singapore or home country (international travel); or

b. to a domestic destination that is at least 90km away from your overseas residence (domestic travel)

However, please note that we exclude:

i. travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, Liberia, Sudan and Syria;

ii. temporary relocations (e.g. for studies, internships, student exchange etc.);

iii. travel to places which are part of your regular commute; and

iv. domestic travel within Singapore or your home country.

Losses arising from acts of terrorism is covered under the policy. If any of the insured events is caused by an act of terrorism; resulting in a loss under any of the benefits, the policy will still respond accordingly. E.g. Under section 1, if the insured person is accidentally injured due to a terrorist attack, and is permanently disabled, the benefit will respond accordingly.

Act of terrorism means an act (which may include using force or violence) by any person or group, committed for political, religious, ideological or similar purposes, with the aim of influencing any government or to put the public, or any section of the public, in fear. Robberies or other criminal acts mainly committed for personal gain and acts arising mainly as a result of personal relationships will not be considered as an act of terrorism. Act of terrorism also includes any act which is confirmed by the relevant government as an act of terrorism. Using nuclear, chemical or biological substances or weapons will also be considered an act of terrorism.

To enjoy both COVID-19 medical and travel inconvenience cover, you will need to purchase both the Overseas Medical Expenses rider and Trip Protect rider.

COVID-19 medical cover is automatically included as part of the Overseas Medical Expenses rider. 

All Trip Protect riders which are purchased 23 September 2022 and after will automatically contain COVID-19 travel inconvenience coverage.

No, the travel inconvenience due to COVID-19 benefits are only automatically included for Trip Protect riders purchased 23 September 2022 and after.

If you have an existing OSPP policy with Trip Protect rider, you would have to cancel your existing policy and take up a new policy with the Trip Protect rider in order to enjoy the travel inconvenience due to COVID-19 cover.

You can purchase the COVID-19 Overseas Medical Expenses rider only, since the COVID-19 medical cover and travel inconvenience cover are included in separate riders.

We will cover you for the following benefits up to the sub-limit and limit as shown in the table of cover according to your plan, if you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while overseas.

There is no coverage for claims arising from COVID-19 for all other benefits except Sections 20b, 20c, 21i, 21j and 21k. The coverage is applicable for all countries except Afghanistan, Iraq, Liberia, Sudan and Syria.

We also do not cover for:

• any expenses incurred for mandatory COVID-19 diagnostic tests such as pre-departure tests and post-arrival tests; and
• any medical expenses incurred for COVID-19 treatment in Singapore or your home country.

For a full list of specific exclusions, please refer to the policy terms and conditions.

You must fulfil all vaccination, pre-departure tests and post-arrival tests requirements (if any) imposed by the destination country or transport operator at the time your trip is booked. You need not submit the test result or proof of vaccination at the time you sign up for the Overseas Medical Expenses rider and/or the Trip Protect rider but you must furnish it to us at the time you submit the claim.

If you are overseas on the start date of the Overseas Medical Expenses rider and/or Trip Protect rider, you will only be covered for COVID-19 after 14 consecutive days from the start date of the Overseas Medical Expenses rider and /or Trip Protect rider.

You are eligible to be insured under this policy if you are :

a. Between 8 and 65 years of age; unless you are a child insured under a family cover, then you must be more than 30 days but less than 25 years of age and unemployed throughout the period of insurance;

b. Registered as a full-time or part-time student with an educational institution holding a valid student identification card issued by the educational institution and hold an NRIC or valid Singapore student pass and residing overseas for the purpose of study or student internship; and

c. Studying or taking part in a student internship outside Singapore and outside your home country

If you are the legal spouse or child(ren) of the student insured under this policy and residing overseas with the student insured, you must hold a valid Singapore identification document such as an NRIC, employment pass, work permit, long-term visit pass.

Yes. The family cover covers a maximum of 2 adults with:

a. the insured person registering as the student; and

b. his/her legally married spouse;

and any number of their children more than 30 days but less than 25 years of age named in the schedule.

The child(ren) must:

i. be the biological or legally adopted child of the adult described in paragraph a and b above; and

ii. not be employed (full time or part time) during the term of the policy.

The period of insurance should be the period of your overseas study. You can choose a policy period from 6 to 12 months.

If you are going overseas for more than one year, you can select policy period of 12 months. You will be invited to renew the plan at the end of the policy period.

For coverage less than 6 months, you can consider our travel insurance.

Yes. If no changes have been made to the plan of your policy and we have not paid out any claim under your policy during the period of insurance, you may write to us to upgrade, downgrade or include optional benefits to the plan, subject to our acceptance.

However, removal of riders is not allowed.

If you are including the Trip Protect rider after the start date of your insurance, please note that only leisure trips that start after the Trip Protect rider has been included in your policy will be covered under the Trip Protect rider.

Yes, you can extend your coverage by paying an additional premium. This is provided that your policy is still in force.

If we receive your cancellation request:

• Before the start date of the policy - we will provide a full refund
• After the start date of the policy - we will work out your refund based on the calculation below

We do not refund any amount below $37.80 @ 8% GST in 2023, $38.15 @ 9% GST from 2024. We will also not provide premium refunds if a claim has been made under your policy.

We will be sending you a renewal invite if you have bought a 12-month plan, and you can choose to renew your policy.

The next-of-kin allows a parent or relative to manage the policy on the student’s behalf, if the student is the policyholder. During the application of your policy, there will be an option to name a next-of-kin. If a next-of-kin was not named during policy application, you may contact us at pline@income.com.sg to name one.

The next-of-kin is authorised to:

a. Access policy information (for example, policyholder details, insured details and other policy information);

b. Edit policyholder/insured information (for example, name, contact details, ID number. However, we are unable to change the policyholder/insured to a new person);

c. Make changes to the policy (including cancellation);

d. Renew the policy;,

e. Making premium payment; and

f. Submitting claims.

However, note that any premium refunds will be made to the policyholder.
